March Madness: Day 1
First of all, the first day of the tournament should be a National Holiday. I mean, this country is crazy about the bracket. Even non-fans fill one out. Based on any kind of criteria. So, why not make it a holiday? It’s got to be more significant than Presidents Day or Columbus Day or some of those other ones. I don’t need mail on the first day of the tournement, we should all get the day off work and forget about it. It’s not like 80% of the males in this country had anything else on their mind anyway today.
Secondly, I can’t remember a first day of the tournament with less upsets and so many blow outs. Most of the games were over by halftime. The top seeded teams must be way better than expected. There haven’t been this few upsets since the mid majors began making a splash back in the mid 90′s. I guess with everyone having to play at least of year at the college level now before turning pro, it has made the big conference teams even better. I mean, really, Duke was the only upset. And most people could see that they weren’t that good and would be lucky to make it past the second round at best, and most basketball fans knew that game would be close. The only other ‘upsets’ were in the 8-9 game, and I don’t really count those. Those games are anybodies game anyway and reserved for schools with past success that is having a down year, no one really wants to be a #8 or #9 seed.
Let’s hope tomorrow is better than today, this has been too predictable so far!
